My short story "The Lagoon" was chosen as a finalist in Aesthetica Magazine's Creative Writing Award 2014. I’m honored to have been chosen for publication!
The story I submitted is one I wrote for my second semester portfolio during my year at the University of Edinburgh. It was inspired by a reading of Peter Pan (1904). Act III of the play takes place in the mermaid’s lagoon and is a very haunting, very atmospheric chapter that ends with the ominous line, “To die will be an awfully big adventure.” I couldn’t get the act out of my head, especially the end scene with Peter and Wendy. So, some time later the idea for this story came to me.
It’s just a wee little piece (as my Scot friends would say,) but it has my affection
